Respirator Fit Testing
Current OSHA standards state, "before an employee may be required
to use any respirator with a negative or positive pressure tight-fitting
facepiece, the employee must be fit tested with the same make, model,
style, and size of respirator that will be used." (CFR 1910.134).
MPMS provides quantitative (using a TSI Portacount machine) respirator
fit testing to help employers comply with federal regulations and
ensure employee safety. Employees can be tested on the same mask
they use in the field using appropriate fit test adapters attached
to the various makes and models of respirators. If this is not possible,
we have most common makes and models of respirators for fit testing.
A "fit test card", is issued at the time of testing. The
card documents the date of testing, type of respirator, both model
and series number and fit factor of the quantitative fit test. We
have the resources and expertise to get this testing done in a quick
and orderly fashion so employees are not away from work any longer
than is absolutely necessary.
